Alice at lunch

So sorry for the lateness of this post. I had homework that I wanted to get finished and couldn't finish this chapter until now. One thing that I found that is difficult now is to keep a consistent story and I'll try to write a post at least once every two weeks. So here is what happened to Alice after she fainted. Please read on to find out.

Alice awoke gasping for air and simultaneously with each breathe her throat felt like it was on fire. She tensed up exhibiting behavior that was closer to an animal after waking up in a strange region. She was twisting her head from side to side, baring her teeth, pushing her shoulders forward and crouching on the balls of her feet. Within a few seconds Alice's brain started to come back and she started to relax.
She realized that she must be in the nurse's station because she was laid out on a bed that looked like it came with the school when it was built in the 1910s as a military hospital. She was about to get up when the nurse came in and saw that Alice was awake.
"How are you feeling dear," the nurse said in a hushed voice. Alice said that her throat hurt but when she started to talk it felt fine so she said that she was okay.
"Do you know why you're here?"
"No the last thing I remember is Adriana on the floor because the laser shot into her eyes and that's it," Alice answered then remembered that she fell down the stairs and added that.
"You might have suffered a concussion."
"I mean no disrespect but I know I didn't suffer a concussion. My mom is a nurse and she's taught me a lot of medical procedures. Also I know when I have a concussion and if I just stay awake I won't go into a coma right? I didn't eat today that might be why I fainted. So can I go on with my school day?"
"I'm going to check none the less and if you aren't suffering a concussion you can go to your third period or lunch which ever comes first."
"My lord this is so annoying," Alice thought to herself while the nurse did the exam to see If she had a concussion, "I probably know more about human anatomy and physiology than this woman does and she probably only wants to protect her butt."
The nurse finished the exam and said that Alice could go. Alice got up and started to leave when the nurse said that she should have a healthy lunch just in case it was from not eating and that the nurse would tell Alice's second period teacher where she was. Alice rolled her eyes and started to walk toward the cafeteria. She had a free third period and spent it in the cafeteria for the first of three lunches that the school held.
When she got to the cafeteria she saw that she was early and decided to wait on the stairs until the kitchen doors were open. She thought about taking the nurse's advice about eating a healthy lunch but decided that she would get what she normally got, mashed potatoes with gravy, a Salisbury steak and steal something from one of her friends. When the doors opened she went down and grabbed a tray and asked for the mashed potatoes with gravy and the Salisbury steak.  When she paid for her meal she started to go toward a set of tables near the stairs but once she was out of sight of the cooks she went up the stairs.
Alice and her friends didn't sit anywhere near the cafeteria. They always chose to sit in places that have a feel of isolation. Alice was heading to their current hideout, it was on the roof and though the roof was accessible for students to go up to the location that they found was very difficult to find. It was on the roof but in a location that was behind the little structure that serves as a entrance and exit from the roof. Her friends found that if you squeeze along the fence and the structure you can get to a tiny little area that you can't see at all. Jo had found the gap when she was up on the roof and asked John if he go along it to see where it lead. Jo tried to go down it but her bust as well as Alice's proved too big to squeeze through so when John suggested the location as an area to eat he brought a little rope ladder to go up it.
Alice waited for John to come and place the ladder so she could get behind the stair structure. While she waited she played around with her food. She was about to take a bite when she heard footsteps coming up the stairwell. A few seconds later John had come up and said to Alice that it won't be too long and asked if she wanted him to take her lunch.
Alice agreed and handed him the disposable food tray the school was using. John shimmied along the aforementioned gap and within seconds the rope ladder had been tossed down to allow Alice and Jo who Alice thought would be coming up. Alice, Jo and John were not afraid of someone coming up because the roof access was difficult to find in the first place and the lunch periods don't allow much time to get food, get to the stairwell leading up to the roof and eat it. Alice, Jo and John only do it because they usually eat home lunches or in Alice's case have the extra time to do it.
By the time that Alice was at on the structure Jo had come out and started to climb. After a few seconds all three of them had seated in their little hideout and started to eat. Alice took a big bite of the Salisbury steak and winced but continued to eat the food.
"Alice, What's the matter you don't look like your enjoying the food and I know you love gravy and that plate looks more like a meal of gravy with mashed potatoes and steak instead of what it really is," John said somewhat sarcastically.
"It tastes awful. I feel like...well it feels like how my dream felt. The food is so bland and like it doesn't give me anything." Alice stared at John and then Jo while saying this and when Alice looked at Jo, she said,"your eyes are green. How in the world did they go from brown to green."
Alice was perplexed and thought that maybe she was wrong but she grabbed her compact from her backpack and saw Jo was right. She knew that Jo was right she had brown eyes. She thought that was weird because her mom had blue eyes and she somewhat inferred by the men that her mom dated that her dad must have had blue.
"Why do you think they're green," Alice asked with no concern on her voice.
"I don't know but you look really cool. The color matched your hair and skin a lot better than your normal brown," John announced loudly causing the two girls to be startled.
"I can ask my mom when she gets home from the hospital. Which reminds me did you hear about what happened in my first period."
John and Jo looked at Alice and shook their heads no. Alice then proceeded to tell them the entire story which included how she felt after the stair incident. Just when she finished John looked at his watch and said they get going because the bell is about to ring. They started to get up wrapping their lunches in a bag so Alice could throw it away in the cafeteria in the next lunch period and when they had finished and opened the stairwell door the bell rang for students to start back from lunch. Alice said bye and Jo and John proceeded to their classes leaving Alice to go back to the cafeteria to spend sometime with her friends in the second of three lunches their school had.
